Actually, this was a commission piece I did for someone on Deviant Art.

Finally Got Back to Life Drawing!

I also finished off a sketchbook, devoted to life drawing of course, after the longest time. My goal is to attempt to finish one sketchbook every month, given the proper time allotment.

Anyway, these were between five and twenty minutes.

For some reason, I can't stop doing these things. It's a lot of fun and you learn quite a bit about animal anatomy.

One thing, though. I find the dark-coated characters are hard to distinguish between their planes of anatomy. One way I try to overcome this is to darken the areas in shadow or just behind a more upfront object, such as a shoulder (scapula) or the vastus lateralis muscle in the outside portion of the leg. If any artists out there have any suggestions, please tell me! I accept any criticism, plus, I don't bite.....so to speak.

Well, I haven't drawn one of these kinds of breeds so I decided to try it out. I don't think I exaggerated enough on him. Eh. The next one will be better. Also, here are a few other pet caricatures I did over the past couple of days.

Life Sketches and Animal Caricature

I was at Barnes and Noble today just sketching some random people. This is an exercise I need to do more often since I haven't committed to on-the-spot sketches in a long time. I felt so rusty, but I managed a few shots.

Also, I decided to do another animal caricature for fun looking at Bark magazine and other pet fancy magazines for reference. I did a bunch of them earlier this year and it's somethings that invigorates me and would be fun to do as freelance for people's pets on the side.
