I've been working on refining human gestures and working with rhythm and anatomical forms a lot more. Gesture drawing like this is great practice and, of course, I have a ways to go before we can get that professional edge. I have been using Mattesi's Force for several of these studies.

These are gestures of a barbarian character I was trying to flesh out on a live stream today. I have to make a turnaround of this character now since I made it a little easier to draw him as I'm still trying to get more in tune with drawing human anatomy.

I was having a drawing block for a while, so I decided to have a cup of coffee. While there, I was with my friend Josh (by the way, you can see his art here: http://amazingtrout.deviantart.com) and sketched some unsuspecting victims. On-the-spot drawings like this help to loosen up the mind a bit.

I recommend anyone to do this as a way to force yourself to draw what is in front of you rather than constantly scraping a taxed creative cache that sometimes needs a bit of replenishment. Besides, these are great exercises regardless.

It's Daze Blazer and his dog, Reddy

Daze Blazer is a supposed superhero in space who everyone admires, however, they don't know even half the story! Daze spends his time getting stoned all day while his super-smart dog, Reddy, does all the work for him and pretty much single-handedly captures all the villains, yet, somehow makes sure Daze gets all the credit.

Yeah, the premise is like Inspector Gadget in that regard, but, come on! Things like this happen all the time with heroes, or at least what we think as heroes!

I finally got this logo done for a friend back in New Jersey whom I haven't seen in years. He and another partner of his are looking to establish a toy company and he immediately came to me. All I can say is their logo was pretty involved, but lots of fun to work on.

The Toongate Has Opened Again!

I did this as a commission for someone. This was more challenging than the first given the complexity of the light as it shone through the trees and the fact that there are two characters here.

First and foremost, that's not me in the photo, but the person who commissioned me to create the piece. This is a first time for me doing this type of drawing. Sadly, this is not from an upcoming feature (though, I wish it was), but it's something I want to do more often. The real challenge is blending the colors in and adding shadows that require touching up the photo itself. Also, the original photo was darker, so I brightened it up and added a tad of color saturation to match the coyote. I also learned that by adding a slight noise filter, the character will further blend in with the photo.

Belfry Boys Issues Available

So far, I have two issues available and will be working on additional issues soon. In a nutshell, the Belfry Boys are three deranged bats floundering through daily life essentially. Also are new, rather peculiar, characters of mine called the Noo-noo Heads. It's a fun comic and it would be nice to keep doing these! This is a t-shirt design I did for the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network http://www.nbran.org. Anyway, I decided to revamp my whole blog and put up new work. I found that the older work no longer lived up to current standards. In a nutshell, things were piling up since 2006 and it was time for a change. Anyway, enjoy!
